Permaculture Education

Permaculture Design Course

Permaculture Design is the tool for integrating natural and human patterns into life-supporting, functionally-connected, sustainable systems that benefit all of creation.

The course combines experiential and academic learning, through hands-on design projects, lectures, readings, discussions, and field trips, covering:

  • Permaculture design process guided by ethics and principles.
  • Strategies of ecosystems and patterning (mapping, assessment, analysis) for urban, suburban & rural permaculture.
  • Techniques for restoring and managing energy, soils, water and cycling “wastes” without pollution.
  • Organic gardening, forest gardening and edible landscaping.
  • Design integration, staging, and presentation.

Participants will receive Permaculture Design Apprentice Certification upon completion of the course, which is the first step towards becoming a professional Permaculture Designer.

Our lead guide, Dawn Shiner, is a permaculture designer focusing on healing through permaculture education, cranial-sacral/theta body work, and permaculture land-use, forest garden & greenhouse consultations. Our assistant guide, Karen Stupski, is a permaculture educator, egalitarian communitarian, and history professor.

Co-sponsors: Gaia University, Heathcote Community, Dancing Green*, and School of Living.
*Dancing Green, Inc., is a not-for-profit committed to the education and demonstration of permaculture techniques for the general public.
