Greater Baltimore Permaculture Guild

The Greater Baltimore Permaculture Guild is an organization that seeks to demonstrate sustainable living and to educate the public and ourselves. We are volunteers who serve as co-teachers for Permaculture education events. Our main demonstration site is at the Heathcote Center. Our guild is developing demonstration sites at Cromwell Valley Park in Towson, Maryland, at Riverpearl Farm in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania and at Spoutwood Farm in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania.

About the Sites

Heathcote Center (410-343-DIRT)

Located 30 miles north of Baltimore, MD, and 20 miles south of York, PA, the Heathcote Center is nestled in a narrow valley on a 44-acre community land trust that offers forest, stream, and hiking trails, as well as abundant gardens and historic buildings. Heathcote Community is committed to providing a working model of cooperative, sustainable living.

Sherwood Farm at Cromwell Valley (410-825-3891)

Cromwell Valley Park is a Baltimore County park whose mission is to demonstrate and teach about sustainable agriculture. Located minutes from the Baltimore Beltway near Towson, Cromwell Valley is a mixture of woodland, pasture, stream, and historic structures, including ten acres devoted to a Community Supported Agriculture project.

Riverpearl Farm (717-227-2783)

Riverpearl Farm is the home of Tom and Val Hopkins. It is a 24-acre farm with three distinct eco-zones: SW facing hillside, floodplain field, and semi-shaded valley. River Pearl is in Glen Rock PA, 35 minutes north of Towson MD. Codorus Creek flows through the property and it is bordered by the York County Heritage Railtrail.

Spoutwood Farm (717-235-6610)

Spoutwood Farm is the home of Rob and Lucy Wood. It is a 26-acre farm that is the site for Spoutwood Farm Community Supported Agriculture’s two acre organic farm garden. Spoutwood has two unique strawbale buildings and is the site for the annual Faerie Festival celebration. Spoutwood is in Glen Rock PA, about 35 minutes north of Towson MD.
