Heathcote Visitor Days by Mick Vogt

I post these blogs are a way to reach out. They are an acknowledgement that we who live here need you who do not; acknowledgement that those who come to us bring us a mirror that helps us understand our place in the world as individuals and as a community.

Without you we would be less vital as a group, we would become more inward, perhaps lose touch.

Non Violent Communication

Non Violent Communication 2pm NVC is founded on language and communication skills that strengthen our ability to remain human, even under trying conditions. It contains nothing new; all that has been integrated into NVC has been known for centuries. The intent is to remind us about what we already know—about how we humans were meant to relate to one another—and to assist us in living in a way that concretely manifests this knowledge. NVC guides us in reframing how we express ourselves and hear others.

Tour and work project at Cromwell Valley Park

We will be going to Cromwell Valley Park to get a look at a Checkerspot butterfly (the Maryland state butterfly) restoration project going on there under the auspices of a grant from Koinonia Foundation.  The checkerspot project is a joint venture between the naturalists of CVP and Oberon Associates Inc (www.doubleclicked.net/oberon).  Oberon is a non profit whose work centers on heirloom and native plant propagation and education.  We have a small plot at CVP.

The School of Living is a organization that has been around for 75 years and manages 6 land trusts/communities.  This talk is about the Community Land Trust model that School of Living uses, Heathcote's main land is owned by the School of Living.  The idea of liberating land so that it is held in common versus privately could radically change the world.

Intro to Permaculture and Humanure

With a slide show full of examples of permaculture from various sites and communities, and a PhD in human waste, who could resist this workshop with our very own, Dr. Karen Stupski?  She has studied and taught permaculture for over 20 years and lived here at Heathcote for at least that long.  She is passionate about permaculture and humanure and has traveled the country learning about both.  This is the orientation to both for our Immersion participants and is open to the public as an interesting and lively conversation.
