Online Community
Welcome to the Heathcote "online community". We've set up our website so you can be a part of the community without getting out of your chair! Just like on some of the popular social networking sites, you can create a profile and interact with others while on the site.
The first step is to register on the site and get a profile. In the navigation bar on the left there's a "My account" link that you can use to see your profile. When you click "Edit" there will be three tabs where you can find stuff to edit: Account is where you can upload a picture of yourself, User Profile is where you can write about your interests and such, and My Newsletters is where you can sign up (or not) to receive emails about upcoming events.
Once you've updated your profile you can post comments on various pages, articles, and events on the site. You can participate in discussions in the discussion forums.
You can also interact with other community mates. There's a little box at the bottom left that tells you who else is online while you are. You can search for someone and find their profile.
You can "friend" an online community mate by going to their profile and clicking the icon that looks like this: ![]()
You can send a "private message" to an online community mate by clicking the icon that looks like this: ![]()
There's a place on your profile where you can put your "Status". It's a little statement about what you're doing or thinking (like twitter or facebook). You can also type into someone elses status to tell them something (like writing on their "wall" in Facebook). In the navigation menu there's a link to "Latest Status Updates" which shows people's statuses.
When you visit the site, stop by and write something on "the wall". Write anything you want. Tell about the time you visited Heathote (or another community that you liked -- or didn't like). What do you think would make the world a better place? Say anything you want!
If you have any questions about the site or suggestions, please email Paul at info@heathcote.org.
