Introduction to the Art of Facilitation with Laird Schaub and Ma'ikwe Ludwig
Introduction to the Art of Facilitation with Laird Schaub & Ma'ikwe Ludwig
When: March 21, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Where: Heathcote Community, Freeland, MD
Do meetings frustrate you? Is the facilitation so passive that meetings are like walking through molasses and progress takes forever? Is the facilitation so controlling that people feel like they've been run over by a truck (or that the decisions were already made behind closed doors and the meeting is just a rubber stamp)? Do you dream of meetings where the group feels energized, engaged, and solid decisions get made? Help is on the way!
Workshop Content
The day will be divided into two parts. In the morning we'll provide an up-tempo overview of the facilitator's craft, covering:
- Cultural Context
- The Facilitator's Mind Set
- How to Work the Conversation
- Format Options
- How and When to Work Conflict
- When and How to Delegate
- Agenda Creation
- Power and Leadership
In the afternoon, we'll let participants determine which of these themes to develop more fully, augmented by role plays where participants will get to test drive the concepts using scenarios of nightmare moments provided by the group. We promise that no one will fall asleep!
Integrative Facilitation Training Program
This workshop is promotional for a two-year facilitation training program that Laird and Ma'ikwe will be starting in the Mid-Atlantic region, May 27-30, 2010. For details about the two-year training, visit www.heathcote.org/cms/content/integrative-facilitation-training-program-laird-schaub. Join us for an engaging and informative day, supplying a taste of what Laird & Ma'ikwe have to offer.
About the Trainers
Laird and Ma'ikwe are professional facilitators who have also been involved in forming intentional communities and managing nonprofits. These experiences inform their unique, whole-person approach to meeting dynamics. Ma'ikwe has worked for 20 years as an organizer, nonprofit director, teacher, and as a consultant. Laird has a national reputation in Integrative Facilitation, conflict management, and consensus. He has been a process consultant for 23 years and has worked with more than 60 groups nationally.
Cost
There will be a sliding scale fee of $50-150. While this workshop, including the handouts, will be well worth the full price of $150, we do not want money to stand in the way of anyone participating, and trust that everyone will figure out the appropriate amount to contribute in light of their personal financial situation and the value to them of this information and experience.
